Receptions for as many as 500 guests were held in this room, which was also used for the inauguration of each new Cabinet.
At 7:30 p.m. on April 21, 1975, President Nguyen Van Thieu delivered his resignation speech, speaking for more than two hours about the difficult situation of the Saigon government after the United States refused to provide additional military aid. Vice President Tran Van Huong then assumed the presidency, but after just one week he also resigned, on the evening of April 28, 1975. Retired General Duong Van Minh took over, and at noon on April 30, 1975, he announced the unconditional surrender of the Saigon government to the Revolutionary forces at the Saigon Radio Station.
In November 1975, the Political Consultative Conference on National Reunification was held here.
Today, the hall continues to be used for official receptions and other important meetings of the Vietnamese Government.
